Your First Baby Shower Invites

So you are going to have a baby! Congratulations! There are few things in life as wonderful as bringing a new life into this world. Whether you have spent months anticipating it, or you have just found out, now is a great time to start thinking about sending out your baby shower invites.  Baby showers are a long standing tradition that primarily serves as a means to provide a new family with some of the starting necessities: diapers, bottles, toys, strollers, cribs, and clothes. They are also a great excuse to bring friends and family together to celebrate a new life and share advice on having children.

When preparing your baby shower invites, you should keep in mind the theme of the party. Is it a cowboy theme for a boy, or a princess theme for a girl? Perhaps you are waiting to be surprised by the sex of the child. In any case, you should incorporate these ideas into your invitations. Take your time with the invitations. They are the means by which people will save the date, often by hanging them up in an easily seen place in their home. If your baby shower invites are not presentable, you may you’re your guests stuffing them into a side drawer and forgetting about them.

Having a common theme is a great way to make the event memorable. There are many traditional themes that you will find for baby showers, such as using blue to represent a boy or pink to represent a girl, but don’t be afraid to step outside of the box. If you don’t know the sex of the baby yet, don’t think of this as a hindrance, use it as an opportunity to incorporate elements from both a boy’s and a girl’s theme. Try to incorporate your personality into the cards. If you are a laid back couple, don’t make the card appear stuffy. Stick with your true nature. Who wouldn’t want to make their guests jealous of an extravagant party for their new child? When the Smiths down the street have their baby shower, they will be stuck trying to have a better or more creative baby shower than yours!

Custom Baby Shower Invites

These are a great way to capture your guest’s attention. Depending on your budget you have many different options. There are tons of places online where you can customize baby shower invitations. You can even upload photos and have them printed on the invite. But if ordering baby shower invitations online is not your cup of tea, you can always make them by hand. Just remember to use a high quality paper or cardstock. Traditional printer paper is flimsy, and will not give your guests the desired impression.  If you are going to print them yourself, remember to print a draft, ensuring that everything is aligned as it is supposed to be. It is an expensive mistake to print all your baby shower invites without seeing how they will turn out first. Remember, just because you make it yourself doesn’t mean it is going to be cheaper.

If you are not feeling creative, however, there are many prewritten and printed baby shower invites. These are very convenient, especially if your lifestyle keeps you very busy. Make sure to shop around though, because there are a wide range of vendors offering different deals. Don’t forget to factor in costs for postage and envelopes.

Choosing the baby shower invites’ wording can be intimidating, but be sure to include the time, location, date, and name of the mother, and the baby to be (if it is known). Including directions is often helpful. Typically one should plan a baby shower 6-8 weeks before the anticipated birth of the baby. This allows space for any surprises that might arise suddenly in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Be sure to mail out your baby shower invites at least a month in advance. This allows time for people to arrange plans and find gifts.
